Would you try an essence inspired by glue, turpentine, dirt or dust? Demeter Fragrance, a Great Neck, New York company are merchandising fragrances based on conventional scents that we breathe in our day-to-day lives. It gets its inspiration from the nostalgic memories that people perceive when smelling a certain aroma.

Some of its famous clients includes Kate Moss who swears by Demeter's Dirt, and Drew Barrymore who wears Gin and Tonic. They also make  body lotionsshower gelsexfoliant scrubs and room sprays.

We all love a good sniff especially if the scent reminds us of happy memories such as the smell of newly sharpened pencils back in grade school, the factory smell of a newly purchased outfit, rain in an easy Sunday morning and the cliche, the cookies that grandma used to bake. That's why I think that Demeter Fragrance went with the extra mile when it comes to the perfumery business. They know what to target most within the customers, and that is the emotion that comes with reminiscing by just a single whiff.

This is what they have to say about some of it's unique fragrances:

Demeter's Earthworm is a deeper, darker, richer version of Dirt, reflecting not the worm itself, but where it lives, deep in moist soil, on the floor of a forest covered with decomposing leaves.

Demeter's Dirt was made to smell exactly like the dirt from the fields around the Pennsylvania family farm.

Cannabis Flower
Slightly floral, slightly spicy, but unmistakably Cannabis, this fragrance has a deep and penetrating beauty.

You know what Demeter Turpentine smells like...That odorous ointment for bad paintings. Well here it is. Hey, people like it!

The scent of airplane or car modeling glue, a guaranteed trip down memory lane.

Funeral Home
When a friend first smelled this one and exclaimed: “it smells like my Grandfather's funeral... call it Funeral Home!”, so we did.

Demeter's Dust scent is much more prosaic, based upon the more typical fine bits of fabric or dirt that give off a familiar and comfortable odor.

Fresh Hay and muck, sweet animal sweat. That's as real as it gets.

It smells exactly like your sweater after sitting for hours in front of a wood fire.

Below are some of Demeter Fragrance's perfumes that are rather, non-traditional and eccentric.

And here are some of my personal favorites, especially Cherry Blossom and Marshmallow.

Grass and Holy Water may seem a na-uh to some but it's kind of personal for me. For Grass, I love looking back at those times that my parents would take me and my sisters to a nature park around town. We will just run around the grass like nobody cares. For Holy Water, I grew up with my ever loving grandma and we always go the church and attend the procession of  (insert name of a Holy figure here), so the smell of it reminds me of those days.
